General Announcements for the Week of January 14th

Welcome Ms. Keisel!
For the next 8 weeks, we will have a student teacher in class. I want to welcome her and show her some true Cardinal Spirit!
Ms. Keisel will graduate in May, but plans to continue with a post-grad degree and play in her last semester of eligibility with the CSC volleyball team!

This week we are starting a Text-Dependent Analysis (TDA) Unit!

Students will be asked to read texts and answers text-dependent questions, as well as respond to readings in writing (essay) format!

Reading Log Requirements have increased for the 2nd Semester!

Students are now required to 
read for 25 minutes FIVE days a week! (Monday-Friday)
They are no longer required to get reading logs signed.

  • Those interested in umpiring this summer, there will be a meet & greet on Sunday, January 14, 2019 @ 7pm in the HS commons.  Please plan to attend to learn more.
After School Program:
  • Students in need of help in Spanish, there are multiple ASP staff who can help you.  We offer academic help every Monday through Thursday after school.
  • Students who would like a snack before they go to their sports practice, stop in to room 103 and grab a snack.  Be sure to put your trash in a trash can please.
  • Activity schedules have been posted!! Take a look and see what we will be doing this week! CMS Afterschool Program Activities
  • Students, if you have a favorite activity that you would like to see on the calendar let the staff know so that we can schedule it.  We want to make ASP as fun as possible.
Library:
Welcome back!
  • The library has Mrs. Hoffman’s 6th graders’  book projects on display.  
December’s genre was biography/autobiography and the students had to make a gift for the person, that they read about. There are some neat “gifts”/projects!  Come take a look!
  • 7th & 8th grade Book Club will meet during lunch on Wednesday, Jan. 16.  We will be reading Long Way Down.  See you there!
  • Spring 2019 Battle of the Books has begun.   All but one, Battle of the Books are checked out, at this time! Students are allowed to check out ONE book at a time.  Students can request a hold on a book, please fill out a HOLD form at the  circulation desk.  
F.Y.I: Battle of the Books that are returned,  will be placed back into the Battle of the Book cabinet/shelf---wooden box with glass doors.  These books will not be shelved within the library.   There is a display of what the book covers look like, in the library hallway.  Most of these books are brand new!  
(If the books are checked out at the school, you might try the online library, city library or college library.)

  • Plastic Recycling Drive: A collection receptacle is located on 2nd floor not far from the office.  All #1 and #2 plastic bottles, milk jugs and other containers may be placed in this bin.
  • The Traveling Library has arrived.  “Check it out!”  Library resources (Checkout, return or renew a book) will be available between classes.  Mondays the library can be found on 3rd floor, Wednesdays on 2nd floor and Fridays on 1st floor.
  • 8th grade Scholastic team tryouts will be next Wed. (Jan.16) after school in Mr. Theis’s room.  7th grade Scholastic team tryouts will be next Thurs. (Jan. 17) after school in Mr. Theis’s room.  First to come, First to tryout!

Four 7th Grade teams and Four 8th Grade Teams will verse each other in a 
single elimination/ bracket style tourney in literature trivia during 1st, 2nd, and 3rd blocks on Friday!

If the overall Champion is a 7th grade team, they will win a 
WEEK off of Reading Logs!

  • Students MUST have their activity passes with them to enter games!  They need to be presented at the ticket gate before you will be allowed to enter the game!  
After School Program:
  • Students in need of help in Spanish, there are multiple ASP staff who can help you.  We offer academic help every Monday through Thursday after school.
  • Students who would like a snack before they go to their sports practice, stop in to room 103 and grab a snack.  Be sure to put your trash in a trash can please.

*THE GRINCH is in the library hallway.  He is looking for kind deeds.  IF you should see a friend, peer, teacher, or staff DO A KIND DEED...something that made you think, “How nice.” or “How cool was that!”  Come into the library, get a paper heart (on front counter in the green bowl) write down the good deed you saw. Give this paper heart to Mrs. Wollesen or Mrs. Kaus and it will be put on the Grinch.   Let’s just see how much kindness there is!

Come take a look at several beautiful Christmas cards that are from around the world!  Part of the HAL program.   (In the glass case)
*6th graders have their book projects displayed on shelves: Game boards
*8th graders have Mythology Pandora boxes on counter.
Come check out these creative projects and just maybe a book too!
AND… PLEASE RETURN OVERDUE BOOKS or RENEW --before HOLIDAY BREAK.
NOW GO OUT AND BE MERRY...and be KIND!

Make sure you are checking your grades and makeup any missing work/ redo assignments ASAP! I will stop accepting work on Wednesday, Dec. 19th!

This is the LAST WEEK for the 
Canned Food Drive. 
The Food Drive ends December 14.  Remember….  Please no perishable food, yes cake and muffin mixes count.  Keep in mind the food gathered should be for nutritious meals.  


The goal of our Canned Food Drive is to create a culture of giving, kindness, and help. 

All 7th Grade Donations should be brought/stored in Mrs. Dubs' Room! Mrs. McCartney is offering extra credit in Math. After showing Mrs. McCartney your cans, please bring them to Mrs. Dubs' Room!
