Author Nathan Hale will be visiting Chadron Middle School!

We will host him for a Writer's Workshop for those two days. In this workshop students will learn how to create historically-based stories in a graphic novel style!

Office/Teacher Announcements:
  • Any student that was in 3rd Qtr Physical Education that is interested in running the mile for the Presidential Fitness Test!!! We will run it THURSDAY during Cardinal Block. Please check with your Cardinal Block teacher and let me know ahead of time if you are interested! Mrs. Cattnach

  • 7th grade Wind Cave Field Trip is scheduled for May 15th. Students must be passing all of their classes to attend.
  • Last Book order of the year is in the LA rooms and Mrs. McCartney’s room check out the dollar books for great summer reading. Book orders due by Monday May 7.
  • If you want to borrow a Chromebook from the library.  You will need to check them out from a librarian.  You can only check them out for one class period.  The Chromebook must be returned at the end of the block!
  • Star Charts for April  are in Mrs. McCartney’s room.  Check out the night sky Orion is brilliant.
  • Student Showcase is tonight.  We have a wonderful show--Come and see musicians, historians, dancers, magicians, and comedy tonight at the show!  It begins at 6 in the High School Auditorium.  Participants please be there at 5:40.  
  • All library books MUST be returned by Friday, May 11.  No exceptions!
After School Program:
  • ASP Weekly Schedule 
  • Science Camp Registration Forms are available at the office.  This camp is offered to grades 5-7 and will focus on Meteorology the week of June 4th-8th.
  • On Thursday, May 3rd  we will be taking a trip to the Mari Sandoz Center at CSC.   We will learn more about the history of northwest Nebraska.  Join us!
  • If you are in the building after school please be in a teachers classroom or sign in with ASP.  We can't keep you safe if we do not know that you are here.
  • This week’s makerspace activities will be Sketching and painting. Your ideas for activities are appreciated!  Please share them with ASP Staff.
  • There is plenty of help in the library after school if you need to work on homework or projects.  PLease let us help you, that is why we are here.

CMS Athletics: 
  • Morning Marathon started on Monday, March 26 and goes through May 17th.  Students, staff, and parents are invited to run on the track from 7:10-7:40 am Monday through Thursdays.  
  • Those students that will not be participating in the track meet this weekend please return your jerseys to Ms. McLain ASAP!
  • Students will depart at 5:45 am for Saturdays meet in Sidney 5/5
  • Babe Ruth Baseball meeting for players and parents is on Monday May 7th at 5:30 pm at the Legion Field.
Student Council:   
Box Top Drive.   It is looking like the teachers will walk away with a win!!  You may want to get your classes rallied and start bringing in box tops.

  • Just a reminder to 7th grade students who are interested in taking FCS and Coding electives next year instead of music, please fill out the Google Form that is on Mr. Dressel’s Blog page. The deadline is next Friday, May 4th.

  • Share your talents and your expertise!  It is time to prepare the Annual Student Showcase!  The Showcase includes a show on the stage with singing, dancing, musical numbers on the piano or other instruments, gymnastic stunts, magic acts, etc…  In the commons area of the high school we display student work-art, projects, writings, and so forth.  Please share your talents!  Reading teachers and Mrs. Smith have a sign up sheet for the stage performances.  Mrs. Traphagan and Mrs. Waugh will collect items for display.  We look forward to celebrating all the wonderful talents of our students here at CMS!

  • April 19 and 24 at 3:25pm there will be the Spring Dental Screening Days
  • On Tuesday the 24th we will be walking to the public library for a NASA Activity.  We will leave at 3:45 and Return by 5:15.  
  • On Wednesday and Thursday of this week we will have guest speakers presenting on digital photography.  It will be very interesting and you are encouraged to attend.
  • Hoops for heart prizes are in, be sure to stop in room 103 to pick them up.

  • Wednesday, April 25th will be staff member Josh McBride’s last day at ASP, Stop in  and wish him well.  We will sure miss him!!

Spring Testing is Upon Us!

Below is a testing schedule for the coming weeks. Students will be assessed on Science, Reading/LA, and Math!


To make sure you are putting forth your best effort, try to eat a good breakfast/lunch and get a good night rest! These tests help us evaluate Cardinal Block sections as well as our curriculums!

  • There will be a representative from Westpoint Military Academy giving a short presentation in the HS library this Friday at 1:30, all parents of students grades 8-11 who are interested in a military academy please plan on attending! It is not very often that we get representatives from the Military Academies in this part of the state.
  • If you want to borrow a Chromebook from the library.  You will need to check them out from a librarian.  You can only check them out for one class period.  The Chromebook must be returned at the end of the block!
